La teoría del Triángulo de las Bermudas estalló Alfredo Leon 53 Views • 6 years ago

La identificación de un naufragio de casi 100 años ha desacreditado una teoría de conspiración popular: que el Triángulo de las Bermudas estuvo involucrado de alguna manera con la desaparición de 1925 del SS Cotopaxi. El granelero a vapor nunca llegó a su destino en La Habana.

Sin embargo, la verdadera guinda del descubrimiento es que el naufragio SS Cotopaxi ni siquiera se encuentra en el Triángulo de las Bermudas, que se extiende desde Bermudas hasta Florida y Puerto Rico.

"Eso es lo que pasa con este Triángulo de las Bermudas: si realmente lo miras en un mapa, la mayoría de las historias asociadas con él ni siquiera están en los límites", dijo Michael Barnette, biólogo marino y buzo que identificó el naufragio.

El mito del Triángulo de las Bermudas ni siquiera existía cuando desapareció el Cotopaxi. No fue hasta la década de 1960 que se acuñó el término, en un artículo de revista, y en 1974, salió el libro más vendido "El Triángulo de las Bermudas" (Doubleday), proponiendo, entre otras cosas, que el triángulo se creó cuando la ciudad "perdida" de La Atlántida fue destruida.

Desde entonces, el Triángulo de las Bermudas se ha convertido en una tradición común, al igual que Bigfoot y el monstruo del lago Ness. En 1977, la película del director Steven Spielberg "Encuentros cercanos de un tercer tipo" vinculaba la desaparición del SS Cotopaxi con el Triángulo de las Bermudas y la actividad extraterrestre.

El trabajo de detective de Barnette ha puesto en evidencia esa idea. Cuando Barnette se mudó a Florida desde el Atlántico medio hace casi 20 años, buscó naufragios que podía explorar mientras buceaba. Un naufragio en particular, conocido por los lugareños como "el naufragio del oso" y ubicado a unas 35 millas náuticas (65 kilómetros) de la costa oriental de San Agustín, en el norte de Florida, llamó su atención.

A diferencia de la mayoría de los naufragios en esa área, el Bear Wreck era grande. Intrigada, Barnette investigó un poco; tomó medidas del naufragio, miró artículos históricos de periódicos y registros de seguros, y examinó los artefactos encontrados en el naufragio.

Su investigación mostró que "el Cotopaxi era realmente la única opción", dijo Barnette.

En 2015, comenzó a circular el rumor de que un barco fantasma encontrado por la guardia costera cubana era en realidad el SS Cotopaxi. Barnette decidió dejar las cosas claras, por lo que publicó un video en línea diciendo que el verdadero Cotopaxi estaba en el fondo del Atlántico.

He and 200 other people all gathered to physically lift by hand the brand new 75' sailing catamaran 'Ppalu' into the water from the beach where she was built in St Martin, Caribbean. She immediately became the fastest and most well known sailing yacht in the world, and also the biggest sailing catamaran at the time.

Able to achieve speeds in excess of 25knots, Ppalu's pedigree was true from the start, and she turned heads everywhere she went and bore the covers of many a magazine.

Tragically she had been very much neglected in her life as a day-charter boat in the British Virgin Islands over the past 20+ years, and was in dire need of tender love and care when Randy assumed command. He initiated "Project Ppalu" and immediately set to work on rebuilding her piece by piece over the course of the entire year. All the efforts were rewarded when she was finally re-launched in December 2013 and he and Joanne started out on their voyage of a lifetime.

Unfortunately, 3 months into their sailing, tragedy struck and 'Ppalu' was holed on a reef in St Martin and promptly sank. The video outlines the subsequent salvage operation and shows clearly what is now needed to re-restore this classic sailing vessel and let her heritage live on for future generations to see.
