In this rare slice of music history captured by photographer Robert Landau, the street comes alive with giant, hand-painted billboards advertising the Bee Gees' "Live / Here At Last" album amidst the height of the disco craze. Standing tall in the background is the iconic 9000 Sunset Boulevard tower, then home to the famous "Disco 9000" club and historic offices for rock royalty like Jim Morrison and The Doors.

This stretch of road was the true heartbeat of L.A. nightlife, lined with iconic spots like the original Filthy McNasty's (which later became the world-famous Viper Room), cozy diners, and neon-lit storefronts. While the overall layout remains the same, this famous stretch of the Sunset Strip has transformed completely over nearly 50 years:

— 9000 Sunset Blvd Tower: This iconic 12-story steel and glass skyscraper still stands tall today. It is now a premium office building and remains a prime location for massive, high-end entertainment billboards.

— Modern Billboard Displays: The rustic, hand-painted artwork of the 1970s is long gone. It has been replaced by bright, high-tech digital LED screens and modern advertising displays.

— The Storefronts: The legendary Filthy McNasty's nightclub on the corner eventually became the world-famous The Viper Room. Old-school diners and the ARCO gas station have made way for luxury hotels, trendy restaurants, and upscale shops.

— The Streetscape: The road is much busier now with modern cars, but the classic curving slope of the street heading toward Beverly Hills still looks exactly the same.
