So why is resistance training so important for weight loss/decreasing body fat ?

Increasing muscle size through resistance training increases RMR (resting metabolic rate which is how many calories your body requires to function at rest). Thereby increasing or sustaining fat loss throughout time.

Resistance training can be effective for long-term weight control, too.
