Cevdet'in kuvvacı olduğunun ortaya çıkmasıyla hedefi haline gelen Filippos, onun ve ailesi hakkında yakalanma kararı çıkarır. Cevdet, Yunan askerleri tarafından tutuklanır ve hücrede işkenceye maruz kalır. Filippos, Cevdet'in zekasından etkilendiğini ve birlikte hareket edebilecekelrini söyler. Yunan ordusu İzmir'de patlayan bombalarla sarsılmış, artık Cevdet ve ailesi için bir ölüm kalım savaşı başlamıştır. Cevdet, kızlarını İzmir'den çıkarabilmek için Azize'yle beraber çabalarken bir yandan da yeni aldığı bir haberle vazifesinin tamamlanmadığını öğrenir.

Oğlunun ölüm haberiyle deliye dönen Filipos hem duraksayan Yunan ordusunu büyük bir öfkeyle harekete geçirmiş hem de Azize ve kızları İzmir'de köşeye kıstırmıştır.

Cevdet, Mustafa Kemal'in emriyle giriştiği Şafak Harekatı planının selameti için elini çabuk tutmak zorundadır. Ancak bu kez Filipos'un elinden kaçması kolay olmayacaktır. Dahası Filipos, Cevdet'e karşı kullanabileceği en önemli kozu ele geçirmiştir.
