Reckless the Dog
In 2012, Hurricane Sandy devastated the Northeast Coast of the United States. One pair of victims of the hurricane were Chuck and Elicia James, who lived in New Jersey at the time. The storm damaged the fence in their backyard, allowing their terrier-pitbull mix named Reckless to escape.
Understandably, Chuck and Elicia were heartbroken. They searched for Reckless for several months before accepting he must have died in the storm. A year and a half later, the couple finally felt ready to adopt a new dog. So, they visited a local animal shelter and received an astounding surprise! There was Reckless, waiting for them all this time.
The shelter had renamed him Lucas. According to Chuck, Reckless “jumped three feet in the air” when he saw the couple and they were all happily reunited!
10. Alfie the Resurrected Cat
Here’s a weird one. It has echoes of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot but without the necromancy and terrible ending.
One day in 2009, Angelo Petrillo of Milnrow, Greater Manchester, England came upon a sad sight: a car hit an orange tomcat near his home. The cat strongly resembled Petrillo’s Alfie, who was nowhere to be found. Convinced it was cat, they buried poor “Alfie” and, shortly afterward, he and his family moved to a new home. It’s a sad story too often repeated the world over. But the story, in this case, doesn’t end here.
Nine months later, a friend from his old neighborhood called Petrillo to tell him a ginger cat was at their old house trying to get in. Their old home was a mere mile away, so they went to investigate. To their surprise, it was Alfie! He had put on weight, so it was obvious that someone had been taking care of him. To this day, the Petrillos still don't know whose cat they buried, or where Alfie had been all that time.
9. Opie the Horse
In 2003, Michelle Pool of Eureka, Arkansas, went to the hospital to have surgery on her back. Instead of paying the expensive boarding fees for her horse, Opie, she asked her father in San Antonio, Texas to watch over him while she recovered.
Her father enclosed Opie in his pasture because he didn’t have a stable. One night, someone clipped the metal fence and stole the horse. Why would anyone do that? Well, Opie is a Saddlebred Pinto, which is a breed worth anywhere from $1,200 to $15,000. Upon learning what happened, Pool went on the search. She made fliers, contacted the local sheriff’s office, and submitted the case to an organization called Stolen Horse International.
Nearly ten long years passed and there was no sign of Opie, until Pool received an amazing phone call. Opie had been found.
A woman named Deanna Bordelon was looking for a horse for her 13-year-old daughter when she came across a lovely Saddlebred Pinto on Craigslist. The horse was named “War Bonnet” and was being sold by a woman named Della Brade. According to Brade, a pastor gave her War Bonnet eight years ago. The pastor claimed he couldn’t do anything with War Bonnet because he was shy and had been abused. But Brade made progress with the horse, so the pastor gave him to her.
According to the pastor, he got it from another man who claimed to have found the horse wandering down the highway.
Bordelon thought the story was weird and convoluted, so she did a little sleuthing. She found a picture of Opie and realized it was the same horse. She contacted the authorities right away. This is where things get very “wild, wild west”. The sheriff’s office hired a team of contract cowboys who seized the horse from Bordelon. Bordelon claimed she didn’t know the horse was stolen.
Not enough evidence was found against anyone, so no one was charged. Pool, for her part, was glad to get Opie back and, from his reaction in a video of the reunion, he was pretty happy, too.
8. Bucky the Dog
Mark Wessels lived in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, with his black Labrador Bucky. Unfortunately, his community banned dogs and Wessels to give up Bucky or be forced to move. He left the dog with his father in Virginia. Soon after, though, Bucky went missing and Wessels feared the worst.
One day, a Myrtle Beach resident named Brett Gallagher found a black lab wandering his community. The dog seemed to like his yellow lab, so Gallagher took him home. The poor dog was emaciated, so Gallagher fed him up and took him to Grand Strand Animal Hospital. The vet there scanned the dog for a microchip and discovered he belonged to Wessels.

The African pygmy hedgehog it was was first bred in captivity in the us and its a hybrid of the four toed Hedgehog and the Algerian Hedgehog.
They are apparently quite hard to look after and will need lots of care and attention to tame them, but judging by thE pictures, i believe it would all be worth it!

DIK-DIK
There is a lot of wild animals that shouldn't really be kept as pets but a lot of them end up as pets because they were found injured or lost wandering in the woods
or found next to their parents bodies after a road accident etc.
So in a lot of cases they wouldn't really stand much chances of surviving on their own.
Take for example these super cute Dik Diks.
A Dik Dik is the name for any of four species of small antelope that live in the bushlands of eastern and southern Africa and they can grow to around 19 to 27 inches tall.
They only live to about 10 years of age and they are called Dik Diks because of the sound they make.

LEOPARD GECKO
This next one is called a Leopard Gecko and my brother actually used to have one, they're a little bit weird.
You could put it on your arms or your face and it would just scamper around all over you body and it was the strangest feeling ever but they were so much fun!
The Leopard gecko is a lizard that can be found in parts of Afghanistan, India and Pakistan and whilst i know they don't look as cute as some of the others on this list, i promise you if you ever met one and held it, you'd fall in love!
They make awesome pets because they're super easy to look after they're entertaining and they're family friendly, i mean they wont run up and bite you or claw your eyes out.

MICRO PIG
This one goes by quite a few names such as the micro pig, teacup pig, nano pig and pocket pig.
The micro pig was first developed for medical uses but they became quite popular as their size allowed them to become household pets.
I mean you cant really have a normal huge grunting pig as a household pet, well you could but there's going to be a few problems along the way.
These pocket pig can weigh up to 68 kilograms and be 15 inches tall when fully grown and they look like they'd be a little bundle of cuteness and fun.

PYGMY GOAT
The Pygmy goat is a breed of miniature domestic goat and they are just absolutely adorable.
They never grow any taller than 23 inches and they'd be such a fun little pet to have around the home, that's if you could put up with their noise!
They gained popularity not just because of their size but also because they're great pets, they're very friendly and have great personalities.

SUGAR GLIDER
This one is pretty awesome very cute and guaranteed to put a little smile on your face.
They're called sugar gliders they can be found naturally gliding from tree to tree in the rain forests of Australia and Indonesia
You may have already seen one of these or heard of them because they are quite popular but a lot of people believe them to be rodents, that's not true!
Surprisingly they're from the same family as Kangaroos and Koala Bears.

FOX
Have you ever heard of anyone keeping a Fox as a pet? i definitely haven't but strangely some people do.
I know a lot of people think that Foxes are just to dangerous to own as a pet and that you'll most probably get bitten somewhere down the line, but that's simply not true!
When they become domesticated foxes have shown to be very loyal and loving but also very very smelly.

SQUIRREL
Squirrels are cute as they are but have you ever seen a baby squirrel? I haven't and squirrels are quite common here in England but again i've never ever seen a baby one!?
Squirrels do need a lot of specialized care and attention to become domesticated and even when domesticated they are still known to bite.
In most counties its it illegal to own one but If your lucky enough to be to come across one and be allowed to keep it and you can put it with the occasional bite,
then i'm sure having a squirrel would be quite rewarding as they're super cute and fun to watch.

Pets You Should NEVER Release In The Wild!
Pets You Should NEVER Release In The Wild! Deen Doughouz 749 Views • 7 years ago

Check out these pets you should never release in the wild! From goldfish to other wild animals, these exotic pets become an invasive species and get the wildlife into trouble!

http://goo.gl/UIzLeB Watch our "Most TERRIFYING Sea Monsters Ever!" video here: https://youtu.be/B9aPB6KB504 Watch our "Animals that ALMOST went EXTINCT!" video here: https://youtu.be/SvPyCZNY6JY Watch our "Animals ABOUT To Go EXTINCT!" video here: https://youtu.be/aQt8WuTDJko 10. Green Iguanas
Iguanas are a popular pet for collectors of exotic animals because of how cute they look and supposedly they are easy to take care of. Unfortunately the idea that they are simple to look after was likely spread by those who sell them, because they actually need a strict environment and diet to survive. They can also be difficult to tame and handle, especially when they are fully grown, and this has led to a large number being released into the wild.
They are naturally from central and south America, and thrive in warm environments. This has meant that those released in similar climates, such as those found in parts of California, Florida and Hawaii, have thrived and begun to breed. This has been detrimental to the local ecosystems where they compete with native species for food, and will prey on species that haven’t adapted to deal with these kind of threats. As a result, Iguanas are illegal to own in Hawaii because of the potential devastation and havoc they can cause on the islands. In Florida, the populations of feral iguanas have caused extensive damage to vegetation and local wildlife, so if you do decide to get one please be a responsible owner and don’t release them into the wild!.
9. Cuban Tree Frog
These cute frogs are a favorite of exotic species collectors, but the Cuban Tree Frog is causing serious issues across Florida. They are quite difficult to identify among other frog species, something that is made even more difficult by the way that they can change color. They are originally native to Cuba, the Bahamas, and the Cayman Islands, and are thought to have been first introduced to Florida in the 1920’s. It’s the recent popularity of keeping them as pets, though, that has led to an explosion in their numbers in the wild as a result of collectors releasing them.
Cuban Tree Frogs are an aggressive species that feed on at least five different species of native Floridian frogs, as well lizards, small snakes and tadpoles. They are also able to survive in urban areas, and will take over birdhouses, ponds and birdbaths where they lay their eggs. They have been responsible for massive changes in the ecosystem, and have even been known to affect humans by causing power outages?? They are a danger to environments where they aren’t native, and so must not be released under any circumstances.
8. Rabbits
Rabbits are another incredibly popular pet for owners around the world, but when they are released into non-native environments they can cause serious damage. The best example of this is in Australia where they were released for hunting in 1859. Only 24 were set free, but by 1920 there were an estimated 10 billion across the country. There have been numerous attempts to curb the population growth, but with their speed of breeding, ability to feed on most vegetation, and overall resilience, rabbits still roam Australia in huge numbers and pose a threat to many of the natural species like the bilby and burrowing bettong by taking over their burrows.
7. Goldfish/Carp
They may seem harmless enough, and are a popular pet for adults and children alike around the world, but releasing your pet fish into the wild can have disastrous consequences for your local environment. Nowhere has this effect been seen more clearly than in Australia where the problem has gotten out of hand. Notorious for their strict rules on bio-containment, it’s why Johnny Depp and Amber Heard got in trouble for allegedly sneaking in their dogs. The Australians have good reason for being that way.
In 2016 researchers from the Murdoch University in Perth caught goldfish that weighed up to 2kg and were up to 30 centimeters long. These large animals are thought to have descended from a small variety that were being kept as pets and released into the wild a few years before. By feeding on more food and disrupting the ecosystems, these fish can spread and cause significant damage by off all the native species. Goldfish the size of dinner plates have also been found in Alberta, Canada, and have led to fines of $100,000 dollars to those that release non-native species into the wild.
Angler Raphael Biagini captured a legendary “giant goldfish” out of a lake in the south of France. Fellow fishermen had spent 6 years trying to capture this orange koi carp weighing 30lbs. The only way this fish ended up in the lake, was because someone was trying to get rid of it.
