This vintage view captures the neon-soaked soul of Downtown Las Vegas before modern megaresorts transformed the city. Serving as the historic "Main Street," this vibrant corridor was the true birthplace of classic Vegas casino culture.
Looking east from 3rd Street, the scene preserves the iconic "Glitter Gulch" era:
- Left Side: The towering yellow arrow of Trader Bill’s and the historic El Portal Theatre marquee dominate the skyline.
- Right Side: Mid-century storefronts for the Cornet 5-10-25 Cent Store, a Coin Shop, and a retro McDonald's line the sidewalk.
- The Street: Angular American steel cars park along an open asphalt roadway under a pale desert sky, just before the neon lights ignite.
The Location Today
Standing at this exact spot today reveals a complete transformation into the pedestrian-only Fremont Street Experience:
- Viva Vision Canopy: The natural sky is replaced by a massive, 90-foot-high steel canopy featuring the world's largest LED screen for digital light shows.
- The Buildings: The former Trader Bill's building now houses a White Castle featuring the repurposed historic arrow sign, while the El Portal Theatre structure survives as a modern family arcade called In The Game.
