जब भी आप किसी अनजान जगह पर जाते हैं तो अपनी location को track करने के लिए और अपनी मंजिल तक पहुंचने के लिए GPS का use जरूर करते होंगे। लेकिन क्या आपने कभी सोचा है की जीपीएस में ऐसा क्या होता है जो कुछ ही सेकंड में आप की लोकेशन को ट्रैक कर सकता है ? आखिर एक ऑब्जेक्ट की लोकेशन को ट्रैक करने के लिए यह पूरा जीपीएस सिस्टम किस तरह से काम करता है ?
जीपीएस का पूरा नाम global positioning system है। जिसे Navstar भी कहा जाता है । GPS ,एक satellite based radio nevigation system है । जिसे यूएस गवर्नमेंट के द्वारा military purpose के लिए 1973 में एक प्रोजेक्ट के रूप में लॉन्च किया गया था । 1995 में पहली बार जीपीएस को आम पब्लिक के लिए ओपन किया गया ,लेकिन उस वक्त इसकी accuracy अौर quality इतनी परफेक्ट नहीं थी। सन 2000 तक यूएस गवर्नमेंट ने GPS सर्विस को बेहतर बनाने के लिए अनेक प्रयास कीये ,जिसकी वजह से सन 2000 से GPS system पूरी दुनिया में ठीक तरह से काम करने लगा
Whenever you go to an unknown place, you must use GPS to track your location and to reach your destination. But have you ever wondered what happens in a GPS that can track your location in a few seconds? After all, how does this complete GPS system work to track the location of an object?
The full name of the GPS is the global positioning system. Which is also called Navstar. GPS is a satellite based radio nevigation system. Which was launched in 1973 as a project for military purpose by the US government. For the first time in 1995 GPS was opened to the general public, but its accuracy and quality were not so perfect at the time. By 2000, the US government made several attempts to improve the GPS service, due to which the GPS system since 2000 started working in the whole world.

Prof. Aditya K. Jagannatham (http://home.iitk.ac.in/~adityaj/) is a Professor in the Electrical Engineering department at IIT Kanpur, where he holds the Arun Kumar Chair Professorship, and is a well-known expert and trainer on 5G technologies. He received his Bachelor’s degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California, San Diego, U.S.A. From April '07 to May '09 he was employed as a senior wireless systems engineer at Qualcomm, San Diego, California, where he was a part of the Qualcomm CDMA technologies (QCT) division. His research interests are in the area of next generation wireless networks, with a special emphasis on various 5G technologies such as massive MIMO, mmWave MIMO, FBMC, NOMA, Full Duplex and others. His work has been published extensively in leading international IEEE journals and conferences, and has been recognized with several awards including the CAL(IT)2 fellowship at the University of California San Diego, Upendra Patel Achievement Award at Qualcomm, P.K. Kelkar Young Faculty Research Fellowship, Qualcomm Innovation Fellowship (QInF), Arun Kumar Chair and the IITK Excellence in Teaching Award.
