En las historias bíblicas, Jesús expresa una visión indulgente de la pureza ritual, al menos en lo que respecta a la comida, diciendo que "no hay nada fuera de una persona que al entrar pueda contaminar, pero las cosas que salen son las que contaminan" (Marcos 7 : 14). Esto parece contrastar con los hallazgos arqueológicos y otros en Nazaret, que sugieren que la gente en la ciudad practicaba una interpretación estricta de la pureza.
