I had the chance to sit down with Alexander Sora, the creator of Unicorn Platform, which he sold to John Rush for $800,000. We dive into the story behind that acquisition, what it felt like to go through it, and everything that came before.
Alexander also built 8+ directories, including one that sold for $10k.
His approach to building directories is completely different from mine. While I focus on SEO-driven, location-based directories, Alex builds around his own pain points often in product-focused niches. He doesn’t rely on SEO the way I do, which makes for a really fun contrast in our philosophies.

A principios de este año, la Cascada de San Rafael de 500 pies de altura en la Amazonía ecuatoriana pareció desvanecerse. La cascada más grande del país en altura y volumen, su desaparición no fue causada por una caída repentina en los niveles de agua, sino porque el río Coca decidió literalmente "caer". A pocos metros detrás de la cascada, se abrió un agujero gigantesco que cambió el lecho del río y desvió el río a través de un arco cercano que sobrevivió al colapso.
Las imágenes de drones muestran escenas de antes y después de la increíble transformación de la cascada. Lamentablemente, especialmente para los grupos de turistas que acuden anualmente al sitio, el nuevo hoyo ha reducido la icónica cascada original a poco más que un goteo.
¿Un fenómeno natural o hecho por el hombre?
Exactamente por qué el río Coca de repente atravesó su cauce es un tema muy debatido entre geólogos y conservacionistas. Una exposición en Mongabay sobre la desaparición de la cascada citó a Alfredo Carrasco, un geólogo y exsecretario de Capital Natural en el ministerio, diciendo que la ubicación de San Rafael dentro de una región volcánica y propensa a terremotos probablemente jugó un papel.
"Hay muchos terremotos bastante intensos aquí. En marzo de 1987, apareció uno muy fuerte que causó un daño tremendo al oleoducto trans-ecuatoriano que lo atraviesa", dijo. "Ese año tuve la oportunidad de evaluar el impacto del terremoto en esa área. Hubo inundaciones de hasta 20 metros sobre el nivel del valle por donde pasa el río".
Carrasco agregó que las inundaciones y la lava de una erupción del cercano volcán Reventador en 2008 probablemente causaron una represa natural del río, lo que puede haber llevado a una erosión extrema en su base y la formación de nuevas caídas debajo del arco.
"Es muy típico que la energía del agua que cae erosione la base", dijo. "Para mí, el fenómeno [el colapso de la cascada] es eminentemente de origen natural".
Otros, sin embargo, señalan la existencia de la nueva planta hidroeléctrica Coca Codo Sinclair, que se encuentra a unos 20 kilómetros aguas arriba de la cascada de San Rafael como un posible culpable. Emilio Cobo, coordinador del Programa de Agua de América del Sur de la Unión Internacional para la Conservación de la Naturaleza (UICN), le dice al sitio que es posible que la planta hidroeléctrica haya causado indirectamente la desaparición de la cascada a través de un fenómeno llamado "aguas hambrientas".
"Cuando un río pierde sedimentos, el agua aumenta su capacidad erosiva, un efecto llamado 'aguas hambrientas'", dijo Cobo. "Todos los ríos transportan sedimentos erosionados de los suelos y rocas sobre los que pasan. Todas las represas y embalses atrapan parte de este sedimento, especialmente materiales pesados, y privan al río río abajo de su carga normal de sedimentos".
Cobo cree que no es casualidad que el lecho del río se haya erosionado solo unos años después de la apertura de la central hidroeléctrica. "Estos son procesos que se encuentran en documentos científicos y hay evidencia suficiente de que una presa puede causar efectos de este tipo en un río", agregó.
Las autoridades planean continuar estudiando el colapso de las cataratas de San Rafael para determinar la causa exacta, así como para monitorear los riesgos casi seguros de erosión futura y mayores deslizamientos de tierra a lo largo del río. Una cosa es segura: la Cascada de Agoyan, una vez la segunda cascada más grande de Ecuador, ahora es el nuevo campeón reinante.
